"the montreal based furniture retailer domison recently revealed a specially commissioned design installation by the design studio paprika. the 'ice tree' by paprika was commissioned as a christmas decoration for the store's window installation.
the tree is made from canadian mineral glass water bottles assembled together.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, environmental friendly design in material and shape has been getting increasingly important. So I made lightning that gives us a feeling just like nature is getting into the house literally by using tree-shape. For light, LEDs are used, while recycled plastic is used for the branch part. Arbre utilizes a module method of lighting. To use this light, the user must put the branch shaped pieces into one another. As the human inspires life into the tree, the tree releases the light through its branches."

"Description: Crosslight is an contemporary double-cruciform light soon to be illuminating U.K interiors. Multi-functionality is the key here, the sculptural lamp can either be used individually as a stand-alone table or floor light, or as part of a chandelier ensemble with special rings connecting multiple lights together. "New York Designer Billy May has an affordable yet innovative lighting scheme to sell you. Brought to our attention via our friends at Freshome, and intriguingly dubbed "Torn Lighting," the product presents a conceptual re-definition of sorts, since the fixtures "muddle the barrier between the room and its contents," with the resulting illusion that the light "comes from the room itself." The idea is deceptively simple: introduce elements that contain LEDs yet camouflage with wallboard (they can be painted or textured to match), thus creating the effect of a "torn" portion of wall that emits light from an unseen source.

May's collection includes fixtures with three different profiles: "Hangnail" adheres to outside corners, creating the illusion that the wall is peeling back on itself and resembling a sort of primitive sconce; "Dog Ear" attaches to straight runs and looks like it sounds—a turned-back page of paper; and "Crevice" fits to inside corners, establishing an unsettling rippling effect, the portion of wall in question thus seeming to harbor some pulsating life-form of innate phosphorescence.

Torn Lighting is purposefully random: no matter where you install the fixture, it creates the appearance of a haphazard illumination, but that’s precisely the point, as May says, "muddling" the traditional notion that light must come from a visible fixture or lamp. The concept establishes a sort of systemic mood lighting, in which the randomness of illumined objects or spaces interacts with the suggestiveness of the "hidden" source. " added on 2008-10-27

"Hulger's beautiful Plumen bulbs explore the possibilities of the energy-efficient CFL, reworking its staid form into fluid light sculptures that dare to be covered up or hidden from view. Named for the plume-like forms that spiral and descend from the light's pendant fitting, these brilliant bulbs celebrate and encourage the use of CFLs.

Unsatisfied with the paltry selection of CFL's available today, Hulger sought to broaden their appeal by exploring different design options:

'Despite there being an abundance of CFL producers, we see only three basic bulb formats available: The Radiator, The Ice Cream Whip and the Tungsten-esc types. Each style is uniform in shape, with no variation, tension or interest. It seems strange that the bulb, an object so synonymous with ideas, is almost entirely absent of imagination.'

Their beautiful re-envisioning of the common CFL is motivated by a desire for people to purchase the bulbs from an aesthetic want as opposed to a nagging guilt. The installation, consisting of 6,000 acrylic tubes containing optical fibres, is inspired by the way the desert flowers after a rainstorm."
